Misty Mountain, Winding River

In the Misty Mountain, Winding River project, your child will learn about the characteristics and physical processes of rivers, including how they shape the landscape over time, their significance around the world and the impact of flooding.  Altitudinal zones will be studied and children will learn how contour lines are used to show the topography of an area. The children are going to explore the stages of the water cycle and find out facts about mountains and their different formations. As well as studying mountain ranges in the United Kingdom, the children will also learn about mountains around the world.

How you can help your child at home:

  • When your child brings home the Knowledge Organiser for each subject within the Project, make sure it is kept in a safe place for you and your child to read and use together when you are ready.
  • Find a quiet time to read through the Knowledge Organiser together. It contains all the main facts your child is expected to learn during their lessons. You need to read through this regularly with your child and ask them questions to check what they have learned and understood

Reading a range of fiction and non-fiction books with your child will help them develop a love of reading and stories and help them learn new knowledge, especially if the books are about mountains or rivers!

Build on your child’s passions and interests: Where you can, talk to your child about their developing interests and passions and provide them with as many opportunities as you can to know more or do more. Your support will make a massive difference to their self-esteem, confidence, and capacity to develop their skills and knowledge.
